On March 15th more than 26,000 runners participated in the annual running of the LA Marathon. WTC’s President and Vice President, Phillip and Charlotte Beidelman, said the race was challenging and the course was beautiful, starting in Dodger Stadium and ending in Santa Monica, close to the beach. Called the “Stadium to Sea” course, over 1,000,000 spectators lined the course as the runners wound their way throught downtown LA, over to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, past Sunset Strip, Into Beverly Hills and onto Rodeo Drive, up VA/Purple Heart Hill, down to Ocean Avenue/Palisades Park, finishing in Santa Monica.
The inaugural Los Angeles Marathon was in 1986, born from the excitement of the successful 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles. This first LA Marathon had more than 10,000 entrants, making it the largest inaugural marathon in the world. Los Angelians have embraced this event, showing a strong presence along the route, yelling and cheering the runners on, many times by name since the runners name is printed on their front bib. Music, dancing, and other entertainment keep the runners going.
On April 27 more than 14,000 runners participated in the annual running of the miniMarathon and Marathon as they kicked off Kentucky Derby week. WTC’s President and Vice President, Phillip and Charlotte Beidelman, said the race was challenging, starting and ending in downtown Louisville, with a scenic run through the historic Churchill Downs race course and navigating a hilly stretch in Iroquois Park. Now in its 40th year, the race is a precursor to the Derby Festival, where more than 1.5 million people attend 70 events, culminating with the 139th running of “The Run for the Roses.”
Ever start a marathon in one calendar year and finish in another? WTC’s President and Vice President, Phillip and Charlotte Beidelman participated in the 2nd annual New Years Double Marathon in Allen, Texas. Despite the freezing temperatures and rain, 39 degrees and rainy the first day and 39 degrees and windy the second day, the pair completed a half marathon on New Years Eve and another half marathon on New Years day. Phillip and Charlotte are avid runners with a drive to push themselves to the limit and participate in a few half and/or full marathons annually. Runners also love their bling….they finished with THREE MEDALS each- a New Years Eve event medal, a New Years Day event medal, and the New Years Double Challenge Plate to house them!

Phillip and Charlotte Beidelman participated in the 3rd Annual Garden Spot Village Marathon April 9th in New Holland, Pennsylvania. A beautiful setting, the course rolled through the picturesque Amish farmlands of Pennsylvania. This time of year the scenery is amazing, the farmers are tilling the fields with horse drawn plows and horse and buggies are the norm. Smiling Amish children encouraged the runners on along the demanding course.
